[biblatex] Corrections for Danish language

I see that biblatex 0.7 is out. Thanks a lot, I am just about to install
it.
I see that it now includes Danish language. I have a couple of
corrections for the language file. I have chosen to post this on
comp.text.tex so that other native Danish speakers may comment on my
corrections...
Spelling error:
references = {{Referancer}{Referancer}},
should be:
references = {{Referencer}{Referencer}},
Grammatic error:
typeeditors = {{editorere}{ed\adddot}},
should be (if one insists on calling it editor in Danish):
typeeditors = {{editorer}{ed\adddot}},
I believe the Danish expression "med flere" is more correct than "blandt
andre/andet" (bl.a.) in the following:
andothers = {{bl.\,a\adddot}{bl.\,a\adddot}},
so I suggest:
andothers = {{med flere}{m.\,fl\adddot}},
Similar to English, I think it should be OK to define 'andmore'
identically to 'andothers'.
This may be a matter of personal taste, but I think:
mathesis = {{masteropgave}{masterop\adddot}},
should be:
mathesis = {{kandidatafhandling}{kandidatafh\adddot}},
Norwegianification:
citedas = {{herefter siteret som}{herefter sit\adddot\ som}},
should be:
citedas = {{herefter citeret som}{herefter cit\adddot\ som}},
We spell Canada the same way in Danish, so:
countryca = {{Kanada}{CA}},
should be:
countryca = {{Canada}{CA}},
....and:
patentca = {{kanadisk patent}{kan\adddot\ pat\adddot}},
should be:
patentca = {{canadisk patent}{can\adddot\ pat\adddot}},
....and:
patreqca = {{ans\o gning om kanadisk patent}{kan\adddot\ pat
\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
should be:
patreqca = {{ans\o gning om canadisk patent}{can\adddot\ pat
\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
Fellow Danes, please correct me if I am wrong and have a look at the
language file for suggestions for the many undefined terms if you have
the time.
Best regards,
Thomas Arildsen

I agree with your corrections.

I think we should follow the conventions of Dansk Sprognvn
<http://www.dsn.dk/>.

If it is a person, then the term is "redaktr" (sing.) and "redaktrer"
(pl.). The word "editor" does not exist in Danish and if used as a foreign
word, it refers to a computer program for editing.[Gyldendals Dansk
Fremmedordbog]
typeeditors = {{redakt\o rer}{red\adddot}}

Blandt andre/andet is definitely wrong for this key and your corrections
is okay I think. You sometimes see "og andre" though (literally "and
others") but not very often. I don't seem to recall there is a tradition
for inserting thin spaces in such abbreviations. DSN doesn't indicate it
is so, neither does my old encyclopedia.

Your version is definitely correct. The other is an anglification.

Others I spotted:
phdthesis = {{PhD afhandling}{PhD afh\adddot}},
is
phdthesis = {{ph.d.\ afhandling}{ph.d\ afh\adddot}},
Great Britain is "Storbritannien" in Danish but no adjective is defined.
Therefore
patrequk = {{ans\o gning om storbritansk patent}{UK
pat\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
should be
patrequk = {{ans\o gning om britisk
patent}{Brit\adddot\ pat\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
Similarly, one would never say
patrequs = {{ans\o gning om US amerikansk patent}{US
pat\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
but rather just
patrequs = {{ans\o gning om amerikansk
patent}{Am\adddot\ pat\adddot\ ans\o gn\adddot}},
Some missing entries:
% typecompiler = {{}{}}, % equal to editor?
% typecompilers = {{}{}}, % equal to editors?
% commentator = {{}{}}, % FIXME: missing
% commentators = {{}{}}, % FIXME: missing
% annotator = {{}{}}, % FIXME: missing
% annotators = {{}{}}, % FIXME: missing
% bytypecompiler = {{}{}}, % FIXME: missing
I am not entirely sure about these ones. I will ask some lerned people in
these matters.
andmore = {{med flere}{m.fl\adddot}}, %
paragraph = {{paragraf}{\S}}, % FIXME: missing
paragraphs = {{paragraffer}{\S\S}}, % FIXME: missing
resreport = {{forskningsrapport}{forskningsrapport}},

datacd = {{data-cd}{data-cd}},
audiocd = {{lyd-cd}{lyd-cd}},
version = {{version}{vers.}},
reprint = {{genoptryk}{genoptryk}},% can't think of good abbrev.
reprintof = {{genoptryk af}{genoptryk af}},% can't think of good abbrev.

seenote = {{se note}{se note}}, % can't think of good abbrev.
quotedin = {{citeret i}{citeret i}}, % can't think of good

Often one talks about an article being reprinted in (genoptrykt i) some
journal. Isn't this missing?

Another possibility is "speciale".

It's spelt {{ph.d.-afhandling}}{ph.d.-afh\adddot}}.

True. Depends on the university or who happens to write the webpage. My
preference would be for kandidatafhandling.

Yes, of course. Thanks.

One should _not_ insist on calling it an "editor" in Danish. The
correct word is "redakt\o r", or in plural "redakt\o rer".
(For some reason, "editere vb., -ede.", "editering sb., -en, -er." and
"edition sb., -en, -er." are listed in the Retskrivningsordbogen, but
not the word editor.)

I presume the distinction between 'UK' and 'GB' is not important here?
(It's the UK Patent Office, of course.)

I can't claim to be an authority either, but here goes:

As a general rule, that's wise (but I have been known to disagree
strongly with them).

Unfortunately it's not just an anglification anymore, some danish
universities (e.g. university of Copenhagen) offers master programs as
"efteruddannelse" (education for people who have been working for many
years). "Kandidatafhandling"/"speciale" is still way better though.

As Thomas has already pointed out, you forgot a period and some
hyphens.
> Similarly, one would never say

I might, but only if I wanted to emphasize my feelings about the US
American patent system, so I have to agree with Mortens suggestion.

> patrequs = {{ans\o gning om amerikansk patent}{Am\adddot\

If it is a person, "redaktr" (i.e. the same translation as for
editor) is probably the best.
If it is a computer program for compiling some kind of source code to
another form, I would vote for "overstter".
> % typecompilers = {{}{}}, % equal to editors?
And here it would be "redaktrer"/"oversttere".

"kommentator"/"kommentatorer" ?

As commentator/commentators?

Probably "afsnit" (sing. and pl.).

"genoptrykt som" ?
> seenote = {{se note}{se note}}, % can't think of good abbrev.
Too short to abbreviate anyway.

I'm not shure about the annotator.

If it is correct to say fortolker, isn't it better to use fortolkning?

I would prefer genoptrykt som as Henrik suggests.

Like countryep, this is for patent entries only. Here's an example:
http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?IDX=EP1700367
Note the abbreviations used in the "Also published as" list in the
upper right hand corner. I have no idea how this patent numbering
system works, but it does seem to have a concept of a "world" scope
even if there is no such thing as a worldwide patent. Clarification
welcome...

I don't think either that it should necessarily be 'editor' in Danish; I
was merely confused since 'redaktør' is also used for the term 'redactor'.

I do not know about the thin space - I just copied that from the original
translator's 'bl.\,a\adddot'.

With the above suggestions, we will have four different fields
translating to the same term in Danish. If some publication has more than
one of these fields (theoretically all four), this will cause a lot of
confusion since they will all be called 'redaktør'.
I am not sure what to do about it. Are there any people here from the
Danish publishing industry or something like that who might have some
experience with this?

I think these two alternatives have entirely different meaning; 'citeret
efter' means that am quoting something from [source] whereas 'citeret i'
refers to something that is quoted in [source]. According to the biblatex
manual, page 129, I would say that 'citeret i' is the correct way of
interpreting it.

By the way, Philipp, who is coordinating the Danish language file? Is he/

Only two, actually; the 'editor' and the 'redactor'. 'redactor' is
admittedly tricky to translate in some languages. In German, it's not
uncommon for certain kinds of books to have a "Bearbeiter" in
addition to the "Herausgeber" (editor). In English, I don't recall
having seen a 'redactor' even once.

'quotedin' should be the expression used when citing a 'second hand'
quotation. If you quote, say, a statement by Smith but don't have
access to the original publication and refer to Smith as quoted in a
book by Edwards, the citation would read:
Smith, quoted in Edwards 1995, p. 45.
The translation should be based on the most common idiomatic
expression used for this. In English, it's "quoted in" (="citeret
i"?)); in German, it's "zitiert nach" (="citeret efter"?). When used
in a citation, both phrases really mean the same thing.

I have, but only in works on theology. Sorry I know no Danish, though.

I have seen the term "bearbejdet af" in encyclopedic works. But you =
wouldn't call it "bearbejder" (noun) in Danish.

As Morten says, one could rewrite a sentence/statement with "bearbeiter"
to something with "bearbejdet af" (in german that would be something
like "bearbeitet von") but the noun "bearbejder" is never used (outside
discussions on non-used nouns based on verbs).
Likewise, sentences/statements with "compiler" could be rewritten to
something with "samlet af", but "samler" as a noun means collector.

When used in that exact setting, I agree that both mean the same, I'd
prefer "citeret efter" as I believe that stresses that you aren't citing
the original source, and I find that important.
